Mr. Joshua "Jay" Mims
Jay Mims is an instructor, five-time published author, independent filmmaker and pop culture aficionado.
Jay has a B.A. in Broadcasting, an A.A. in Theatre, an M.F.A. in filmmaking, and is pursuing his PhD. in Critical Communication. Jay is originally from the upstate of South Carolina, and is an alumni of North Greenville University as well as Regent University.
He teaches courses in TV production, media writing, social media, web design, corporate video, and the practicum. A key component of Mr. Mims’ classes are identifying the professional goals of each student: What do they want to do on graduating? College is a time for finding yourself, and more importantly, finding a way to get paid to do what you love. Each class incorporates elements of career mindedness even as it covers the essentials of a post-21st Century Media Education. These classes aren’t simply about absorbing necessary information. It’s also about growing as an individual, a professional, and an artist.

Mr. Mims got his start working in local AM radio, before pursuing a degree in broadcasting. It was there he discovered a passion for video production, particularly writing and editing. Mr. Mims moved to Virginia Beach where he began working in professional TV and film productions while pursuing his MFA. Mr. Mims, upon graduation, worked in corporate video as well as independent film, TV, and web series. Mr. Mims also began publishing fiction, developing a unique brand online and via social media.
